Generator Operation & Control Course

COURSE OVERVIEW

Power generators are highly specialized pieces of equipment. Depending on the kind of station and the generators used, they produce power at various voltage and power levels and run continuously. Is your plant or fleet operating at optimal performance? The answer depends on how you manage balance reliability, availability, maintainability, reduce operating costs, and combine people, processes & technology.

This Generator Operation & Control course will give you a comprehensive understanding of the various types of generators, exciters, automatic voltage regulators (AVR’s), speed governors, and protective systems. This course will focus on maximising equipment’s efficiency, reliability, and longevity. It will provide an understanding of the characteristics, selection criteria, common problems, repair techniques, preventive and predictive maintenance.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon the successful completion of this course, each participant will be able to gain knowledge in:

  • Fundamentals of electrical power generation
  • Fundamentals of generators
  • Synchronisation of generators with a system (Including Infinite Bus and Finite Bus)
  • Maintenance philosophy of power generators
  • Generator protection system
  • Condition monitoring and preventive maintenance of power generation
  • Operation of exciters
  • Selection and importance of automatic voltage regulators (AVR’s)
  • Generator speed control governors
  • Generator protective systems and installation
  • Maximising reliability and efficiency
  • Common problems and repair techniques
  • Preventive and predictive maintenance
  • Diagnostic testing, troubleshooting, and upgrade options

TARGET AUDIENCE

This training course is suitable for a wide range of professionals but will greatly benefit:

  • Inlec Technicians
  • Operator Maintainers
  • Electrical Engineers
  • Electrical Supervisors
  • Maintenance Technicians
  • Managers in charge of Instrument Installations
  • Project Engineers

TRAINING METHODOLOGY

The latest educational methods and strategies are employed. The course is designed not only to give the required fundamental knowledge but also to provide the opportunity to consolidate their learning through the practical assessment on the Generator Simulator. This gives participants the opportunity to demonstrate multiple scneraios that often isn’t possible onsite.

The course is highly interactive, with opportunities to advance opinions and ideas. Participation is encouraged in a supportive environment. To ensure the concepts introduced during the course are understood, they are reinforced through a mix of learning methods, including lecture-style presentations, open discussion, case studies, simulations, and group work.

Pre & Post course assessments will be used to measure the effectiveness of this training.
